Please enjoy this interview I did with the amazing Scott of Square Peg Toys. He's a fascinating man and an excellent kinkster.
I always think it's great when you know some of the back story of the toys you are enjoying... I have more in this series! Keep an eye out.
George: Hey guys, it's George here. I'm really excited to be talking with someone who hasn't been in the spotlight much, despite his significant contributions to the community. It's quite cool to be talking to you. Please, introduce yourself.
Scott: Well, I'm Scott Douglas, the guy behind SquarePegToys.
George: So, when you say SquarePegToys, are you referring to the anal explorer kind of toys?
Scott: When I say SquarePegToys, I mean the entire brand. This includes not just the products, but also the charity, education, and everything else we do.
George: So, tell me, how long has SquarePeg been around?
Scott: This is my 22nd year.
George: 22 years? Wow, how did SquarePeg evolve? How did it come to be?
Scott: Can I give a little backstory?
George: Please, go ahead.
Scott: Just out of college, I set my sights on becoming a potter and a ceramic artist. I was doing pottery, art shows, and designing my own line of slipware dinnerware. While embarking on that path, I've always been into butt play, sticking things in my butt ever since I can remember, you know, hiding in the bathroom, listening for mom's footsteps down the hall.
George: Fair enough, I think we've all been there.
Scott: Back in the day, the only thing on the market for large toys was Creative Moldings. I don't know if you remember that company, but they used vulcanized rubber. Their products were expensive, brittle, and couldn't be used with Crisco. One day, I thought, if I'm making molds to make mugs and plates, why can't I make a mold to make a dildo?
George: Yeah, right.
Scott: So I had the clay, sculpted some forms, and began this process. It took me about a year and a half.
George: What was the first toy you created?
Scott: As a potter and artist, I made a set of eight toys that filled different needs like stretch, depth, training, and warmup. They're all on the website and I call them the original eight. There's a picture of them all, and they're all still in production except for one, which I’m thinking of bringing back.
George: That’s amazing.
Scott: I wanted to use the best material for my butt. The other rubber toys were toxic and fragile. I knew some companies were making small silicone toys for women, so I knew it was possible. There was no internet back then, so I had to do a lot of old-fashioned research, even going to the library for chemical analysis.
George: That's dedication.
Scott: I finally got them made, took them to parties, played with them, and shared them. People loved them and wanted me to make some for them. Silicone is expensive, so I asked them to cover the costs. They bought them, took them to their parties, and their friends wanted them too. I started adding a little more to cover all the costs because I knew about products and selling from my pottery experience. That’s how it started. I never aimed to be a dildo manufacturer, but here we are.
George: Isn’t that how great things start? With your passion and dedication?
Scott: Absolutely, you’ve got to be passionate about it.
